That’s a hard one. I am not sure I can pick a single one, but things like our understanding that the earth is round, that it rotates around the sun, that genes are selected through evolution, how DNA works, all these things I think where really major discoveries.

There are so many amazing scientific discoveries, which makes it extremely hard to choose. Where would we be without the discovery of electricity, gravity, DNA or…ice cream? 🙂

There are lots of great discoveries, which makes it really difficult to pick one. Personally, I think that the scientific method is the biggest discovery. That means that we can arrive at reliable knowledge by proposing an outcome and then testing it. This has not always been the case. Despite all their accomplishments, the ancient greek philosophers did not perform experiments, but only did science in their head without testing their ideas. In a way, all the great things that humanity has found out later derive from this.
