Doing the I’m a scientist get me out of there, or working in research? The first one because I think it’s our job as researchers to discuss about our work to people who are not in our field of research, and because I find it fun. I also would like more young people, and girls, to be interested in science and consider careers in science.
The second because I enjoy my work, and I feel very lucky being able to do a job that I enjoy.

I’m taking part in “I’m a scientist” because I think that it is important to get young people interested in science. Scientists can be a bit shut off – I spent a lot of my time either brooding over data by myself or communicating with other scientists. For that reason, most young people do not get the chance to find out what a scientist’s work is like so that they can see if that might be something for them. This seemed to be what the people behind “I’m a scientist” wanted to achieve and I wanted to support it by taking part.

For science itself, I’m doing science, because I think that it has the potential to make things better in the long run and also because I enjoy doing it. I like the opportunity to find out new things, come up with solutions to difficult problems, and discuss ideas with my colleagues.

I think it’s important for young people to know what science is about. I had a very different opinion of what science was before I actually started doing it. There are a lot of misconceptions about science and scientists, and I think that this is a great opportunity to address some of these.
