The brain is made of many cells, notably known as glial cells and neurons. Signals get transmitted via axons and synapses. They work a bit like your computer! Cells form tissues, and tissues fold up to form the brain. Different regions of the brain have different functions, such as personality, abilities, talents, memories, control of bodily functions and reflexes etc..
Meningitis caused by bacteria (other things can cause it too) can be cured by antibiotics. For better protection, you should get yourself vaccinated against the bacteria that cause it!
However, we are fast running out of antibiotics because bacteria tend to develop resistance towards them. When that time comes, meningitis will be incurable.
